Star Driver Episode 24: Eastern Shrine Maiden

Well we are starting to reach the final conclusion of things here with one big set up episode before the finale. Keito and Sugata seem to come to some kind of partnership as Sugata joins the Crux as King. While things still aren’t clear with what Sugata’s plan is other than a few cryptic hints at “playing the role given to him”, Keito at least seem to be doing things out of love for him, with her eternal pledge to him and the kiss they share. Keito’s hope seems to be to let Sugata “be himself” but also seems to be aiming to defeat Head.

Takuto and Wakko then are kind of left to watch things unfold this time, they can do little but watch as Sugata and Keito abnormal behaviors before the final big reveal of the two now been part of the Crux. You do feel that Takuto is starting to get some vibes from Sugata during the conversation with the headmaster. Even still Sugata doesn’t seem hostile towards them like he was when under Bento’s control so what happens next isn’t totally clear.

I was a little surprised to move back to Kanako for a little bit here as she continues to seem to move to her own beat rather than the beat Keito and Sugata seem to be setting for the Crux. She also does not seem to trust the two new leaders but quickly figures out that the final curtain call is coming up. Her two helpers are pretty impressed to learn that she has been prepping for things from the start as she tells them to get ready to round-up the islanders into her large cruse ship in case Zero Time is broken and things become unstable. The President might yet have a final trick up her sleeve.

Once things move to Zero Time however all the kids gloves are off, Head appears again after gaining a new Mark from his hospitalized friend Shingo who wakes up. This new Mark gives him a new Cybody to use and he uses it to quickly destroy the 3rd seal from Keito and in doing so awaken the King Cybody, Samekh who rises from the ground for Sugata and it does not look like an ally as Takuto stands watching it appear. Still head seems far to happy to see the King Cybody awaken, he can’t just be relying on Sugata helping him here sure?

Very much a build up episode where most of the time is spent with small revelations and setting the characters stances up. Things are still revolving around Sugata I feel but now it’s time things come to a head with Samekh been revived. Head is also back with a new mark and cybody and it still isn’t clear if him or Sugata is going to end up as the final enemy of the show for Takuto. There is still a lot to wrap up though if we include a epilogue so I’m a little worried about time constraints as we move into the finale. 8/10
