Star Driver Episode 22: The Eve of the Legend

Well at long last the drama clubs play is set into motion. It quickly becomes apparent though we might have heard this story before or rather what happens after this story as the club recounts the raise of the squid emperor and the arrival of Mark. Yes the story that the first Maiden told to Head, the play appears to be a prequel of sorts for this and there is a bit of foreshadowing of events as well by the looks of things when it comes to Sugata as ominous flashback like moments happen during the play including the smashing of the dark cybody Ayingott.

I guess as well as Sugata, Takuto’s role int he play also has its own foreshadowing. Taking on the role of Mark we know of his desire to protect Wako is genuine but the question will be if he takes the same route as Mark did in the maidens continuation of the play, where he kills her to obtain more power and falls into this same loop. Of course Sarina does note that, that isn’t how she would see things going and it’s down the who watches to imagine, the story isn’t set in stone.  Also to note is Sarina showing herself to not actually be a human but a race called the Entropeople, along with the club’s vice president, that is connected to the Cybodies origins in some way but cannot meddle in what is going on.

Takuto also has a visitor from his past and one of his old school friends Hana arrives to watch the play and see Takuto again. Though she stays only long enough to watch the play she gets a chance to meet  Wako who she can tell Takuto likes and she seems happy enough to see how he is now, shinning and able to hear the voice of the worlds as Natsuo would have said. She leaves without doing much more than really giving Takuto her blessing and letting Wako see his first crush.

The final piece of interesting development is again back with Sugata as we return to the subject of Keito appearing to him in his sleep, it seems that she has been doing some kind of maiden purification to him when he falls into deep sleeps, perhaps this continues to be a draw back to using the King’s Pillar and so he needs to be healed frequently. In any case this time things change and he wakes up during the healing and so discovers who Kaito is as a maiden.

So we finally have the play and Takuto and Wako end up been the couple to lock lips, still though the focus seemed to be much more on Sugata’s performance than anything else and I wonder with such few episode’s left can he really go down the path presented here, there are hints. Sarina’s origins as an alien was a little out of left field if I’m honest, sure it’s odd how involved she is with the Zero Time stuff but it still felt odd honestly. Even without any action though a very solid episode overall 8/10
